This glitch happens all the time to me! The official fix is to delete the SHARED SAVE DATA of Splatoon, this is NOT your save file so no worries. This is where the rotations (Spotpass data) are stored.
Once deleted you can play online again! I do it all the time, I just did it a few hours ago in fact!
