why do nes and n64 games look so bad on the wii u virtual console?

Mainly the Wii U runs 1080p, which shows things that weren't to be seen at high quality. The Wii is at 480i or 480p, which makes retro games look more sleek and nice. You can change the Wii U's resolution to 480p if you want.
