I'd like to play this game but I don't know what it is based off. Can someone explain to me, like the plot and gameplay?

    In Earthbound/ Mother 2 it's up to you to control a kid named Ness & his 3 allies who must save the world from certain destruction by the cosmic universal destroyer, Giygas. You can explore exotic places like Dusty Dunes Desert, Saturn Valley, and Deep Darkness, fighting hundreds of monsters, aliens, roaming dinosaurs, etc.
